Name: Doctor Michael Hogan Mitchell
Canon: Fallout : New Vegas
Original or Alternate Universe: AU
Canon Point: 2 years after the game ends
Number: 038

Setting: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout:_New_Vegas . It has been two years after the battle at hoover dam, and the legion runs rampant all across the west. They are everywhere, and no one is safe from them. It is from this mindlessly brutal world that the good doctor is plucked from.

History: The good doctor was born in vault 21 some 51 years ago. He lived a good life, getting trained as a medical professional. He thought that he would live as his ancestors had, gambling and healing for his entire life. He was wrong.

Mr. House, a business man from the old world, opened the vault and evicted it inhabitants. The vault dwellers scattered to the wind, and Doc Mitchell and his wife were left wandering for ten years.

Eventually, in a tragic mistake, his wife was killed by an NCR soldier who was trying to shoot the raiders they were fleeing. Heart broken, he finally settled down in Goodsprings. It was there a year and a half later, he met the courier.

Using his healing skills, he managed to perform a feat of medical genius, saving the life of a man who had been beaten to the point of unconsciousness, shot in the head a point blank range twice, and then buried in the ground for several hours. Though he claims this has more to do with the courier than him, it still cannot be said his is not a good doctor.

In fact he is such a good doctor, that when the courier help Caesar overrun the Mojave, he made sure that Doc Mitchell would be spared, despite his bum leg. He made it so that doc would become the private doctor to the elite members of the legion.

So now the good doctor is spending his days, healing men he despises, and knowing deep down, it’s his fault that the Mojave is now a hell hole.

Personality: The good doctor is a saddened man. Because of his wiliness to save someone’s life, he doomed the entire west to an iron fisted rule of anarchy and slaughter. This has put a bit of a dent in his psyche. While he continues to perform medical help, he is a considerably less enthusiastic about it.

At the same time, the average person would never now this from his manner. Smart, eloquent, and walking around with the airs of someone’s caring grandfather from the south, Doc Mitchell seems out of place in the world around him. He takes it as a challenge, to remain kind and helpful in a world that is full of cruelty and death. This is not a ruse, or a mask, but who he truly is, and he refuses to let that part of him change.

The airs of kindness gets dropped when he is near someone that has done something heinous. It should be seen as a true testament to his medical skill that the legion upper-class allows him to get away with being so rude to them. But the average person will never see this side of him; unless they witness him give it to a monster.

And finally it should be noted that doc Mitchell is a patient and caring soul. It is a truly difficult thing to make him mad, and I am not talking about what is discussed above. If you should do something to make him well and truly angry, he can and will do horrible, horrible things in the name of revenge. He knows this, and it causes him much grief that, deep down, he is perfectly capable of preforming actions that would make psychopaths wince in horror.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations: Doc Mitchell is the best damn doctor west of the Mississippi. That is not a boast; it’s a commonly accepted fact. He can diagnose many illnesses from a quick check up, and is a master surgeon. He is a skilled chemist, and is a fairly good therapist. In addition, his medical skill has left him with a cool head under pressure and an ability to keep calm in stressful situations.

The good doctor has one weakness, not counting the standard ones that come with being a vanilla mortal. Due to an incident in his past that he doesn’t remember do to tequila, his lag in semi-crippled. While he can stand and walk, he still limps and is unable to run. This will most likely prove a problem during dangerous situations.

He is usually adorned in a field hand out fit, the clothing of which it includes are listed above. He also sometimes wears a hat in case he needs to keep cool in the outdoors.
Age: 51

AU Clarification: In essentiality, in this world, the courier is a legion aligned negative karma character. In this world, the courier helped save good springs from the powder gangers, left town, got to Primm, and proceeded to begin what a mass murder of epic proportions. He murdered his way through out the Mojave before killing Benny, and then joining up with the legion. With his help, the legion wins, and with Caesar at the helm, they take over the west. Along the way he enslaves Goodsprings and makes doc Mitchell the main doctor for the head legionaries.

In addition to all of this, in this world, the DLCs have not happened, and any influence they have on most couriers does not exist. This is because I don’t have the DLCs, and thus cannot make a world off of them without resorting the using walkthroughs and wikis. Witch I refuse to do on principle.

Log Sample: The man was dying.

He knew it, and so did Doc Mitchell. The soldier looked up at the doctor with tears in his eyes. You’re the best, he says, you have to save me. You have to try

He tries, he really does, but it’s all for not. The solder slips into the void, a bullet in his chest and streaks of tears in his eyes.

The soldier’s friends are pissed. You’re the best, they say, you could have saved him. You didn’t try. They beat him; break his arm, his leg, his ribs. They drag him to a post and lash him to it. To die.

The soldiers mock him, ridicule him. Then they part, showing one man. The courier.

He strides up and tells him about the man who died. Talks about the rapes he had done, the killings he had committed. He talks about the rapes and killings he would have done if he had lived. Then he asks a question.

If you could have, would you have saved him? And should you have tried?

Doc Mitchell awoke with a start. He sat up in his cot, breathing heavily. As his heart slowed , he listened to the sound of the city of nova rome, and thought about the question. He couldn’t come up with an answer.

He still can’t.

Comms Sample: I held up a stethoscope, and listened to the mans breathing. Sounded like he was suffering from a chest cold. Smoking he'd been doing probably didn't help. I proscribed some herbal mixture, and sent the well heeled merchant on his way.
